About Mimi Bates

As a child I loved to paint and draw on my bedroom walls. Inspired by the images in the heavily textured plaster surfaces, I created and composed from the spirit within. This is where my interest in art began.

Today I occasionally draw and compose on my studio walls, creating studies, prior to painting on canvas, wood, metal paper or other surfaces. I am inspired by urban art: urban debris, found objects, sidewalk drawings and calligraphy; graffiti on walls and buildings; and architecture.

My primary studios are in San Diego and Miami. I also work in Spain and Argentina where I share studios with my husband, an Argentine musician.
